In December 2025, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the first round of awards under the Rural Health Transformation Program, a five-year, $50 billion federal initiative designed to strengthen rural healthcare systems nationwide.
For fiscal year 2026, CMS awarded hundreds of millions of dollars to every state, with funding focused on improving access to care, strengthening the rural workforce, modernizing infrastructure, and supporting innovative care delivery models, including remote critical care and telehealth. Remote critical care models, such as Tele-ICU, align with these objectives by extending access to critical care expertise beyond the bedside, supporting onsite clinical teams, and helping hospitals maintain consistent standards of care across settings.
