Intercept Telehealth Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Lisa-Mae Williams, PhD, RN, CPAHA, Honored with ATA Virtual Nursing Leadership Award

June 12, 2026
Intercept Telehealth announced that Lisa-Mae Williams, PhD, RN, CPAHA, Chief Nursing Officer, has been recognized by the American Telemedicine Association as a recipient of the 2026 Virtual Nursing Leadership Award.
Presented during ATA Nexus 2026, the association’s 30th annual conference, the award recognizes leaders advancing virtual nursing programs that strengthen care delivery, improve patient outcomes, support nursing teams, and help health systems build more scalable, resilient clinical models.
As Chief Nursing Officer of Intercept Telehealth, Dr. Williams leads clinical strategy, quality initiatives, and virtual nursing innovation across the company’s care delivery programs. Her work focuses on developing clinically integrated virtual care models that support bedside teams, improve workflow efficiency, expand access to experienced nursing expertise, and help hospitals respond to increasing demands on clinical capacity.
“This recognition is deeply meaningful because virtual nursing is not just about technology. It is a clinical model built around people, teamwork, and better support for patients, nurses, and hospital teams,” said Lisa-Mae Williams, Chief Nursing Officer at Intercept Telehealth. “I am honored to be recognized alongside so many leaders who are helping define the future of virtual care, and I remain committed to advancing practical, clinically grounded solutions that strengthen care at the bedside and improve the way hospitals support their teams.”
Dr. Williams brings extensive experience in telehealth, virtual nursing, tele-critical care, and clinical operations. She holds a PhD in Nursing Science from the Medical University of South Carolina, where she earned the Stewart Dissertation Award for her tele-ICU research. She previously led nationally recognized tele-critical care programs at Baptist Health South Florida and has served as a professor, researcher, national speaker, and advocate for the responsible expansion of telehealth.
“Lisa-Mae’s leadership has been central to Intercept’s ability to build virtual care programs that are clinically sound, operationally practical, and aligned with the realities facing hospitals today,” said Diego C. Reino, MD, FACS, founder, President and CEO of Intercept Telehealth. “This recognition from the ATA is well deserved and speaks to her impact not only within Intercept Telehealth but across the broader virtual nursing and telehealth community.”
This recognition comes as hospitals continue to confront workforce pressures, rising patient acuity, and growing demand for flexible care delivery models. Virtual nursing is becoming an increasingly important strategy for extending clinical capacity, supporting onsite staff, improving care coordination, and giving patients access to experienced clinicians when and where support is needed.
Dr. Williams’ recognition reflects both her individual contributions to the field and Intercept’s continued commitment to advancing virtual care models that help hospitals improve quality, efficiency, and patient support.
